Job Description (Please follow all instructions carefully)

Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Performs a variety of skilled trades and tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, roads, grounds, and related park/project facilities, including fixtures, utilities, and equipment at a Lake project.

Duties

  • Constructs, alters or repairs buildings and structures made of wood.
  • Performs full range of plumbing tasks for new installations and maintenance, including estimating material requirements; threading and pipe bending; placing and connecting air, natural or manufactured gas, sewage, and water fixtures and facilities.
  • Operates engineering and construction equipment such as bulldozer, grader, backhoe, front-end loader, or trench digger.
  • Makes electrical repairs by removing, replacing, splicing (including waterproof splicing), soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment and fixtures.
  • Performs vehicle repairs which can be accomplished by cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing defective parts of components and systems, e.g. spark plugs, leaky wheel cylinders, corroded mufflers, and worn brakes.
  • Operates conventional field type tractor and attached or towed equipment used to mow fields, transport equipment and materials; plant/harvest crops, move earth, dig ditches, and for similar purposes.
  • Drives vehicles such as pickup trucks, sedans, platform trucks, flatbeds, dump trucks, water trucks, tractor trailer to transport personnel, materials, equipment, and water.
  • Operates a Class I motor boat used for search and rescue, to remove and place beach lines, mark buoys, and police drifts from face of dam and shoreline.
  • Operates various electric resistance welding machines or uses a manual gas torch welding process such as oxyacetylene, to join a variety of different kinds of parts or components.
  • Maintains, repairs or constructs a variety of structures and surfaces of brick, block, stone and other related materials.

Conditions of Employment

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state issued drivers license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid CDL Class A license within 24 months of appointment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid USACE Boat Operators license within 24 months of appointment.
  • This is a random drug and alcohol testing position under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

WG-07 Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE MECHANIC ~ without more than normal supervision. I have experience as a Maintenance Worker servicing mobile equipment in areas such as oil changes, maintaining fluid levels, changing oil and gas filters, changing spark plugs, checking and/or repairing tires. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

WG-08 Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE MECHANIC ~ without more than normal supervision. I have experience with Tractor operation and/or towed attachments to mow fields move earth, dig ditches or similar purposes along with some general carpentry experience. I have experience servicing mobile equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

WG-09 Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE MECHANIC ~ without more than normal supervision. I have demonstrated the ability to work as a Maintenance Mechanic performing carpentry, plumbing, electrical repair and/or installation, and some heavy mobile equipment operator functions under normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work from ladders, scaffolds, and on platforms in cramped and hard to reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels and climbs, and works in awkward, tiring and uncomfortable positions. Moderate to heavy physical effort is involved, frequently lifting, moving, and carrying items up to 50 pounds while loading and unloading cargo, handling heavy equipment, parts, tools and materials, pushing wheelbarrows and running power mowers. Considerable arm movement in welding, plumbing, carpentry and engineering equipment operating work, etc.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside exposed to all weather conditions. Exposed to dust, dirt, grease, oils, and noisy conditions. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors. Area is frequently inadequately heated and cooled. Subject to injury from falls, vehicular accidents, loading and unloading cargo, or from hand and power tools used. Subject to cuts, bruises, insect bites and stings, scrapes, burns, infections, and broken bones. Exposed to infections and diseases from unsanitary worksites while collecting samples and operations and maintenance of lift stations. Presence of gases and fumes at wastewater treatment facilities requires use of safety equipment such as gas masks or respirators. Life jacket worn at all times while operating motor boat. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty.
