Duties
- Serves as working leader of employees in accomplishing trades and labor work.
- Serves as acting Project Manager (PM) during absence of PM.
- Insures that needed plans, blueprints, material and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
- Checks work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence.
- Answers workers questions, regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders).
- Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees).

Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of aMAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER without more than normal supervision, provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems, ensures there is enough work to keep everyone in work crews busy, provide instruction of any of the accepted surface preparation and coating methods and techniques to prepare to paint, ad skilled in the use of tools and equipment such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, trowels, screeds, straight edges, graining devices, and wet and other thickness gauges, and provides shop mathematics and possess the skills to compute complex and exact projects with features such as arcs, tangents, and circles.
Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: The work frequently handles objects weighing up to 10 pounds, and occasionally handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds without the assistance of lifting devices. The work involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing up and down ladders and scaffolding, and pulling and pushing at various stages of assignments to assemble items and install assemblies.
Working Conditions: The work is done in a well-lighted, heated, ventilated shop with concrete floors; in areas that are noisy and dirty; and occasionally outside. He is exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes, burns, and broken bones. The tasks may involve discomfort while wearing helmets, aprons, gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, and other protective equipment as required by changing assignments.
