- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Must possess or obtain a 25 Ton Master Near Coastal vessel license issued by the U.S. Coast Guard within 3 years.
- Must posses or obtain Commercial Driver License (CDL) (no endorsements) to operate vehicles with GVW of 26,001 pounds or a combination of vehicles with a combined CGVW of 26,001 pounds or more within 12 months.
- Incumbent is required to maintain confined space proficiency and perform confined space entry certification.
- Incumbent must be physically able to readily access and exit manholes with diameters as small as 20".
- Incumbent is required to work scheduled, unscheduled and emergency overtime.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to lead workers performing the full range of carpentry, painting, masonry, asphalt work, locksmithing, motor vehicle operating, small craft operating, and engineering equipment operating. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
- Uses moderate physical effort to stack, load, unload, move and carry tools, equipment and materials up to 50 lbs unassisted. Occasionally lifts heavier objects with assistance (e.g., using a hand truck). Required to reach, walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally works in cramped quarters, or from ladders, scaffolds or platforms. Incumbent is required to maintain confined space proficiency and perform confined space entry certification.
- Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts, bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. May be required to wear protective clothing and safety equipment. When operating engineering equipment, is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. Incumbent must be physically able to readily access and exit manholes with diameters as small as 20".
Education
Some federal positions allow for substitution of education for experience. However, this position does not.
