Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance and Operations Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Effort
The employee makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions or cramped areas for long periods of time. Frequently lifts/carries and handles parts, equipment, and chemicals that weigh up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance. Climbs elevated water storage tanks over 140 feet high to inspect or repair structural or corrosion damage. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
Working Conditions
The work is done indoors and outdoors, on elevated structures, and in cramped areas., and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Subject to discomfort from face masks or other protective devices when there is a possibility of exposure to chemicals, heat, steam, noise, noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Sometimes required to make installations and repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. Occasionally works outside on top of buildings, in drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of uncomfortable heat conditions with ambient temperatures from below freezing to 115 °F. Subject to possible bums, electrical shocks, cuts, strains, bruises, and chemical irritations. To reduce dangers from these and other similar conditions, follows prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as safety glasses, hard-toe shoes, respirators, hard hats, and fire-retardant gloves. Uses and maintains prescribed safety/protective clothing and equipment such as the following: arch flash clothing and equipment, hard hat, safety glasses, shoes, belts, face shields, respirators, gas masks, ear protection devices, gloves, coveralls, and foul weather gear. Must be clean shaven to ensure a proper seal between face and respirator and air pack for maximum personal safety.
Must be trained in Squadron safety procedures and policies and especially be trained in electrical safety/ arch flash protection, lock out/tag out and be capable of wearing safety equipment of trade.
This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs.
This position is emergency essential. In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent, or designated alternate, must continue to perform the Emergency-Essential duties until relieved by proper authority.
