Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DOD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: As a maintenance worker helper incumbent will perform a variety of trades or crafts associated with general maintenance and repair functions.

Duties

  • Apply paint to areas to protect facility structures.
  • Perform maintenance duties such as loading and unloading pipe, rebar cement, fender timbers, building materials by hand.
  • Performs routine carpentry work by measuring and cutting lumber to proper dimensions.
  • Follow safety guidelines when using heavy tools such as jackhammer, chipping hammer, and tampers.
  • Performs maintenance duties such as fender timbers removal and replacement.
  • Ability to work with heavy tools, such as jack hammer, chipping hammer, tampers, and vibrators.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to signa DA Form 5019-R "Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Employee must possess a valid state Drivers's license.
  • Heavy physical lifting is required of this position. Incumbent must be able to lift objects weighing up to and including 50 pounds.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical as per the required lifting duties noted above.
  • May be required to be TDY up to 25% of the time.
  • This is a formal trainee position. Promotion to the next grade level is at the supervisor's discretion and dependent upon successfully completing all identified training requirements for promotion to theWG-06 grade level.
  • Promotion to the WY-7 and WY-8 full performance level require the incumbent to successfully obtain a Class B, Commercial Drivers's License.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE WORKER (MVO) ~ without more than normal supervision, the ability to perform various manual labor tasks, use and operate a variety of hand and power tools; repair, install, or replace plumbing and electrical fixtures; apply building principles when working with concrete and carpentry; perform grounds maintenance - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT
    The incumbent is frequently required to lift and carry moderate to heavy (over 50 pounds) boxes, tools, equipment and exert moderate physical effort is operating hand foot controls of equipment. Work also requires considerable standing, stooping, bending, walking, kneeling, climbing and working in uncomfortable and tiring positions.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    Work is performed primarily outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, and below freezing temperatures, rain, snow, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes.
