Employee must successfully complete explosives safety courses as required by NAVSEA OP 5 Volume 1 and LANTORDCOM Instruction 8023.2 current series, including Basics of Naval Explosives Hazard Control, Materials Handling Equipment (MHE) Operator Training, Explosives Hazardous Materials Driver training, and refresher courses as required.
Position requires the ability to pass a physical examination for explosives operations personnel every two years until age 60, and annually thereafter.
Position requires successful completion of explosives handling and safety training.
Position requires successful completion of automated information systems and inventory training.
Work is performed inside or outside in areas that may be hot, wet, cold, humid, windy, or poorly lighted and in all kinds of weather. Regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury based on the nature of routine work tasks and/or work locations. May be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and solvents and to high noise levels in mechanized work areas.
When working in hazardous materials areas, may be subject to exposure from explosive hazards, radiation, toxins, or chemical fumes. Work may require wearing hearing protection, protective eyeglasses and protective clothing such as hardhats, steel-toed shoes, respirators, masks, rubber or leather-palmed gloves, and rubber aprons.
Must be able to operate motor vehicles and powered fork lift trucks, climb into trucks and rail cars, climb ladders, walk inclines, continuously lift and carry items that weigh up to 40 pounds, and work under pressure. Must have normal hearing and vision (correction permitted) including ability to distinguish basic colors.
Incumbent is responsible for performing and accomplishing assigned work tasks in a manner that will assure personal safety and the safety of others per the Navy Occupational Safety and Health (NA VOSH) program policies, regulations, and standards. Required to attend NA VOSH training sessions end/or meetings as directed.
