Duties

Serves as a MATERIALS HANDLER LEADER, WL-6907-7 and serves as a leader of Material Expediters to coordinate and expedite logistics flow of cargo, equipment, mail, Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) security materials and food shipments in accordance shipment schedules. Incumbent's typical work assignments may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for organizing and coordinating an effective receiving operation. Independently performs a complete range of receiving assignments.
  • Extracts data from several automated tracking systems to compile reports that are used to track organization performance against established metrics.
  • Operates forklift trucks and automated material handling and identification equipment to include mobile stock selectors and electromechanical automated equipment, such as high-rise automated storage and retrieval vehicles to move, stack and unstack, load and unload, bin, and position material.
  • As a team leader, plans use of subordinate workers equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors.

  • This position is designated MISSION ESSENTIAL. Mission essential personnel report for duty at normal times when the organization/base/building is closed or delayed reporting and remain on duty during phased or early release.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • This position requires the employee to have the ability to obtain and hold a class B/C CDL license.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform in the performance of duties.

Your background must demonstrate a full range of
Material Handler Leader activities which include planning the use of subordinate workers equipment, facilities, and materials; establishing deadlines, priorities and work sequences; planning work assignments on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors; redirecting individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work; participating with superiors in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, budget requests and staffing needs; extracting data from several automated systems to compile reports; and, maintaining automated maintenance management systems, vehicle and delivery tracking systems and package and inventory tracking systems.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: Work involves reaching, lifting, and bending. Weight lifted may range up to 40 pounds. The heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Employee is required to use personal protective equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is done inside and outside and may require exposure to prevailing weather conditions.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act Chapter 21 of Title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.), Section 2108a, requires Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, at the time they apply for a Federal job, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214, assuming the service member is otherwise eligible. A "certification" letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. The service member's military service dates are necessary in order to determine whether he or she meets the definition of "veteran" under 5 U.S.C. 2108(1). The "certification" must reflect the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions not later than 120 days after the date of submission. The "certification" must be signed by, or by direction of, the adjutant, personnel officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters and must indicate when your terminal leave will begin (if applicable), your rank, dates of active duty service, the type of discharge and character of service (i.e. honorable). Further, under paragraph (h) of the rule, agencies are required to verify a qualifying separation from military service prior to appointment, through the DD-214 or other appropriate documentation. Your preference and/or appointment eligibility will be verified prior to appointment. Active duty members that fail to provide a valid "certification" of service with their initial application will be found "not eligible." Military members may be appointed before the effective date of their military retirement/separation if member is on terminal leave.
