The Physician position is located in Primary Care Service at the New London Campus.
This position is full-time at 40 hours per week. A staff physician, Primary Care, is responsible for maintaining professional, technical, and administrative knowledge, competencies, and skills to provide effective, timely and quality responses to patients' health care needs. Working full time in clinic, they are responsible for the primary care of at least 1200 patients and eight weekly clinic sessions. All physicians comply with credentialing and privileging and required monitoring and evaluation criteria. The physicians maintain high clinical standards that are carried into decision-making processes, and continually strive to maintain and enhance teaching skills to effectively teach residents and students. The physicians comply with current standards for medical record documentation and residency supervision. Physicians will achieve a ninety- percent compliance rate with the established Chronic Disease and Prevention Indicators. The physicians will provide appropriate care for veterans ranging in age from 18 through the geriatric years, taking into consideration diagnosis and physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural needs.
Responsibilities include; but are not limited to:
- Personally responsible for the primary care of assigned patient panel across the continuum of care to include: comprehensive health assessment; case management; continuity and coordination of care between inpatient and extended long term care, outpatient, patient advocacy, and compliance with chronic disease and prevention indicators.
- Demonstrates knowledge, skills and abilities to: conduct comprehensive health assessments; determine diagnoses and health care needs; and to construct health care plans based on effective therapeutic ability, consultation, patient education and established practice guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to coordinate patient care through patient management techniques within assigned Primary Care team.
- Maintains effectiveness in recognizing emergency/acute situations and intervening in an appropriate and effective manner
- Documents patients' health care clearly, adequately and accurately as defined by medical records documentation, chronic disease and prevention 'indicators
- Maintains a high standard of teaching through patient care experiences 'in the clinics, during inpatient rounding, and in teaching physical diagnosis
- Ensures that levels of supervision are documented in medical record according to Medical Center policy.
- Complies with completing requirements for re-credentialing and privileging
- .Manages patient workload and wait times in compliance with the with Customer Service Standards, to assure the most effective, efficient service to the patients.

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) Authorized: This position is eligible for EDRP, a student loan
payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with

amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan
Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Former participants are

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
