Meteorology Series 1340
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
- Degree: meteorology, atmospheric science, or other natural science major that included:
- At least 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of credit in meteorology/atmospheric science including a minimum of:
- Six semester hours of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics;*
- Six semester hours of analysis and prediction of weather systems (synoptic/mesoscale);
- Three semester hours of physical meteorology; and
- Two semester hours of remote sensing of the atmosphere and/or instrumentation.
- Six semester hours of physics, with at least one course that includes laboratory sessions.*
- Three semester hours of ordinary differential equations.*
- At least nine semester hours of course work appropriate for a physical science major in any combination of three or more of the following: physical hydrology, statistics, chemistry, physical oceanography, physical climatology, radiative transfer, aeronomy, advanced thermodynamics, advanced electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and computer science.
* There is a prerequisite or corequisite of calculus for course work in atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, physics, and differential equations. Calculus courses must be appropriate for a physical science major.

- Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-02, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-11 or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience is experience in providing meteorological consultant service to scientists and engineers in the exploratory, advanced, and engineering development of Air Force armament systems, including guided and unguided non-nuclear munitions, air-to-air missiles, aerial targets, electronic combat, and navigation/guidance systems.
NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Ideal Candidate (statement is placed within the announcement): The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual who excels at handling numerous unique tailorable tasks via verbal/written communications, developing visual data-driven output via computer programming, and can function as a member of a team as well as on their own. The candidate would be primarily functioning on an Admin M-F schedule but must also be willing to infrequently flex based on mission needs. The candidate must be invested enough to delve into test missions in order to best provide the information a test engineer needs as opposed to just what they ask for.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Requires a BS Degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or similar.
2. Should be familiar with Air Force operational concepts and the current geopolitical situation as it affects Air Force mission planning.
3. Must have a solid foundation in worldwide climatology, physical meteorology, and electro-optical systems.
4. Should have a broad range of knowledge in all phases of military meteorology to include weather observing, forecasting, communications, and meteorological equipment.
5. May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
