You will serve as a Mobile Equipment Servicer in the Public Works Department of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST, in Ventura, CA.

Duties

  • You will test, recharge and properly dispose of storage batteries.
  • You will dismount tires from rims by use of hand or power tools.
  • You will service and repair charging systems.
  • You will replace, adjust, and clean terminal, cables, alternators and belts as necessary.
  • You will replace, adjust, and clean radiators, hoses, pumps, and belts as necessary.
  • You will check and maintain all fluids to proper level and type.
  • You must be able to read, understand and use technical publications and schematics, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) operation and maintenance manuals.

  • The incumbent must possess a valid California state driver’s license Class “C
  • This position may require incumbent to operate a field service vehicle that has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating in excess of 26,000 pounds.
  • The field service vehicle is classified as a commercial motor vehicle and requires the operator to possess a California Class “B” Commercial Driver License in order for the servicer to test vehicles for proper operation.
  • May be required to possess an Optional Form 346 (OF346) with forklift endorsement to operate Forklifts rated up to 15,000 pounds.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds or with assistance in lifting heavier weights.
  • This is an obligated position. The former incumbent has return rights to this position under PL 86-585.

Removing, replacing, adjusting, or cleaning defective parts or components on automotive, specialized, weigh and material handling, construction and allied equipment. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Is occasionally exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, skin irritations, bruises, electric shock, and sprains while repairing/inspecting equipment.

Operate vibrating tools such as pneumatic and electric impact wrenches, dollies, hand trucks, mobile hoists, and jib cranes for movement of heavy equipment.

Work requires sitting, kneeling, crouching, stooping, pulling, pushing, climbing and assuming strained or awkward positions to accomplish work for long periods.

May be required to work at high elevations (from ground level to 100ft high).

The normal use of hands, arms, and legs is required.

Normal vision and hearing, with or without corrective devices is required.

Relocation incentives as described in 5 USC 5753 may be authorized in accordance with applicable regulations. PCS is not authorized.
