Duties

Working at the Fairway Café located on MCAS Miramar and reporting to the Restaurant Manager, primary duty is to provide beverage and food cart service offering beverage and snack selections for sale to golf course patrons and guests on the MCAS Miramar Memorial Golf Course.  Following rules of golf etiquette, engage patrons with professionalism and exceptional customer service when approaching a golf group at least two times per nine holes of golf.  Employ upselling and cross-selling strategies while informing patrons about upcoming events and specials at both the Café and MCCS Special Events.  Maintain communication with golf pro shop and food and beverage personnel to ascertain the number of golfers and any special needs for the day.  Ensure that alcoholic beverages are not sold to individuals under the age of 21.  Report issues from patrons to the MCAS Miramar Memorial Golf Course Superintendent or appropriate supervisor for resolution.  Additionally, incumbent will requisition supplies, equipment, and inventory in advance of work shift; stock, record inventory, and sign for cash drawer; keep supplies neatly displayed and stowed; and maintain beverage and snack quality and inventory levels throughout work shift to optimize sales and service standards.

While operating the beverage and food cart service, responsible for notifying the supervisor of any out of stock items that need to be ordered.  Serve customers, collect money, make change while maintaining responsibility for own change fund, and ensuring an accurate record is kept of sales, and following cash handling procedures.  Maintain an accurate cash bank and use a Point-of-Sale system and credit card machine.  Prepare a daily activity report.  Operate cart through designated areas of the golf course, ensuring the vehicle stays on the cart path or on solid ground to prevent damage to the golf course.  Inform Supervisor of any problems with equipment, trash and storage containers, or facilities on the golf course.  Observe safety requirements and regulations, working in a safe and clean manner and reporting all unsafe conditions immediately to supervisor or taking personal action if supervisor is not immediately available.  Reconcile end of shift inventory and prepare for next day duty.  Clean cart daily, ensuring fuel or power source is at 100%.

Secondary duties include keyholder responsibilities and assisting and monitoring operation and control of the assigned food service activity / location.  Will provide coverage for food preparation, payment collections, serving, and cleaning.  Arranges dining room furniture, sets tables, and receives and serves food from kitchen.  Makes coffee or other beverages with responsibility for timing and brewing.  Assists in preparing and dispensing food in standard portions by placing uniform amounts in dishes or glasses in prescribed quantities.  Performs miscellaneous pantry work.  Reads and understands items on the menu to describe them to patrons and answer their questions as needed.  Maintain cleanliness of back of house and front of house areas including floors, walls and other surfaces including walk-in refrigerators and freezers.  May be responsible for accountability of funds, completing daily reports, inventory, and performing key holder duties at remote food location.  Prepares reports of significant occurrences during the shift.  Assures patron satisfaction by resolving complaints and other customer issues.  Inspects and secures facility at the end of the shift.  Complies with fire, safety, food and work area sanitation and security regulations and procedures.

Provides meaningful connections through customer service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner.  Takes action to solve problems quickly.  Alerts the higher-level supervisor or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.  Adheres to safety regulations and sanitation standards.  Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.  Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be 18 years of age.  A minimum of six months of work experience that demonstrates experience in selling retail food items, food service, customer service, and cash handling is required. Must have demonstrated ability to use basic math skills to perform job duties and ability to recognize intoxicated patrons when serving alcohol.  A high degree of professionalism in the workplace is required to include personal appearance, communication, attendance, reliability, and teamwork.  Knowledge of golf is helpful. Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work involves light to moderate physical effort such as frequently lifting or moving objects, and frequently standing and walking.  Incumbent is subject to drafts, noise, varying temperatures, and outside weather conditions.  Daily work is primarily performed outdoors in temperatures ranging from approximately 65 ¿ 90 degrees Fahrenheit where incumbent is subject to discomfort from long periods in the sun, and sometimes to chilly or rainy weather.  Lifts and carries up to 25 lbs. independently.
