INTRODUCTION:
The position is located within the Transportation Unit, Motor Transportation (Motor T) Section, Logistics Branch, Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS), MCB Camp S.D Butler, Okinawa, Japan. The primary purpose of the position is to assign vehicles and drivers to travel scheduled and requested routes or to specific purposes. The Transportation Unit supports scheduled and requested runs: local tours offered by Tours Plus, Single Marine Program including on-base and off-base destinations, After School Care (SAC), Westpac Airport Shuttle, etc.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Motor Vehicle Dispatcher, performs difficult and time critical scheduling of transportation resources while determining motor vehicle assets and drivers by providing routes, destination information and instructions to the drivers, and preparing documents pertinent to transportation services. Conducts data entry in various automated systems and applications such as Microsoft SQL, Access, and Excel for statistical analysis. Determines the vehicle best suited for the particular purpose, time and distance constraints requested by customers in order to maximize efficiency and support in the most cost-efficient manner.
Receives service requests via daily phone calls, emails, verbally and coordinates with customers to determine requirements. Prepares mission documents including trip tickets, expressway toll certificates, and other documents as deemed required. Considers customers¿ needs, resource allocation, cost-efficiency, and daily factors in assigning requests to drivers.
Ensures drivers are aware and operate on established routes and familiar with the military installations island-wide as well as public roads, expressway, local traffic laws and regulations, and daily traffic conditions. Takes calls from drivers to assist in navigation and assists with the difficult situations on pick-up or drop-off locations.
Checks driver¿s trip tickets, receipts and other documents upon drivers¿ return and closes the service requests at the completion of the mission. Records and documents information from drivers and distributes to appropriate personnel. Performs administrative work using various computer applications for reports and monthly statistics.
May periodically operate motor vehicles such as vans, sedans, 67 passenger buses as required due to last minute mission changes or emergencies.
In coordination with the Transportation Supervisor, schedules maintenance and repair of the vehicles and coordinates with maintenance section as required to repair malfunctions or minor maintenance requirements.
Advises the supervisor of maintaining adequate staff level, recommends qualified applicants, relays training needs, and provides information on performance of the individuals.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Heavy physical effort is required to maneuver long and heavy vehicles, especially when backing up. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Predominantly works in an office environment however will be exposed to noise typically found in and around vehicle maintenance facilities. Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to danger of serious accidents.
