Duties

  • You will properly clean and store all tools and equipment used for projects.
  • You will keep worksites clean and in an orderly fashion on a daily basis.
  • You will learn to perform more advanced work of the trade as a means of developing trade skills and gaining knowledge of the trade.

  • Work requires considerable walking, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crouching, standing, climbing, bending, stretching, pulling, and working in cramped and awkward positions for long periods of time.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

PLEASE NOTE: You will be applying for the Apprentice program and not a specific trade. Management reserves the right to place you in a specific trade.

Selectee is required to sign an Authorization Agreement, and Certification of Training Form, SF182 with Continued Service Agreement fields 15 and 16 filled in and page four signed. Failure to comply with this agreement will result in the apprentice reimbursing FRC for all tuition, books, tools, and fees. You may be non-competitively promoted to the full performance level WG-10 after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. You will spend up to 4 yrs. as an entry level trades person. After successfully completing all required training and experience, you will progress to the journey level. Continued employment and advancement requires satisfactory completion of classroom training and work experience. College level classroom training may include, but will not be limited to, trade skills and trade related mathematics (e.g. algebra, geometry, trigonometry), introductory sciences (e.g. metallurgy, electrical theory), and trade drawings and blueprints. You may be promoted after meeting all requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. You are required to receive 1,800 hrs. of on-the-job training yearly under the supervision of a journey level. FRC will make advance payment directly to the approved academic training program for the following: educational costs, tuition, materials required for lab classes, health fees and any other authorized costs. Additional expenses incurred for school (parking permits/tickets, books, transportation expenses to and from school, etc.) will be the responsibility of the Apprentice. You will be required to sign an agreement to work within the Department of the Navy for 2 yrs. after completion of the program.

Selectees must be able to provide one of the following prior to enrollment in the program:

  • Standard high school diploma with an official transcript; or
  • High school diploma through any State Department of Education based on performance on the General Education Development (GED) test, provided the test was administered in English with an official transcript; or
  • Completed a Florida home education program, in accordance with FS 1002.41; or
  • Approval for High School Dual Enrollment or Early Admission.

Selectees who have earned an associate and/or bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution may be exempt from providing official proof of high school completion.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
