Summary

This position is located in the Support Services Division of Navy Region Southwest (NRSW). The purpose of this position is to provide maximum availability of the Bowling Center to a wide variety of military personnel, dependents, retired personnel, authorized Department of Defense (DOD) civilians and contract personnel.

Duties

Plans, develops, organizes, coordinates and administers the day-to-day and continuing operations of the Bowling Center. Executes diversified bowling activities for Bowling Pro Shop and a full service snack bar. Actively promotes and organizes bowling programs through leagues, special tournaments and special bowling classes. Coordinates publicity and promotes events.

Ensures daily maintenance of the Bowling Center equipment is performed. This includes, but is not limited to, disassembling and assembling mechanical parts and components and inspecting lanes, balls and pins for serviceability. Also cleans and applies dressing to lanes, cleans and maintains approaches. Ensures that routine and preventive maintenance programs on all pinspotting machines and related equipment is carried out, and that all equipment is in proper operating and safety condition.

Operates Bowling Pro Shop, orders resale supplies, and maintains inventory. Custom measures, fits, drills and plugs Bowling Balls for customers. Stays current on the latest trends and available bowling equipment. Maintains records of balls sold to include customer's name, finger size and hand span. Responsible for financial transactions dealing with bowling lane fees, class fees, and resale prices.

Supervises and coordinates the day to day operation of the food and beverage area, inclusive of the sale of short-order food items; planning daily service; reporting of fixture and furniture condition; staff adherence to NAVMED P50.10 Sanitation Requirements; and equipment repair orders; maintains sale records and accountable documents. Position does not include responsibility for budget preparation, monthly analysis of sales reports, controlling change funds, daily receipts, scheduling the staff for service, and the accountability of property, including inventories of resale items.

Prepares and justifies non-appropriated and appropriated annual operating budgets for the Bowling Program and request acquisitions of items to maintain, improve, expand or enhance the Bowling Center Operations. Responsible for assurance of operating within budget parameters. Applies financial knowledge and skills to both APF and NAF funding procedures to interface resources for a sound fiscal policy that meets not only program objectives but, both short and long term goals. Responsible for a needs assessment of the population served and should include payroll, equipment, training and other requirements necessary to operate the facilities in an efficient manner.

Responsible for the control of the daily operations of the amusement machines located in the facility and the collection of the revenue. May act as liaison between the amusement machine contractor and (MWR) department. Monitors the machines to ensure they are not outdated as far as patron and or game interests.

Supervises at least 5 NAF employees. Coordinates and plans work to be accomplished by subordinates. Sets and adjusts short-term priorities and prepares or verifies schedules for compilation of work. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of the employee. Reviews work. Assures that production and accuracy requirements are met. Approves/disapproves leave. Gives advice, counsel, and/or instructions to employees on both work and administrative matters. Recommends performance standard and ratings or develops written performance standards. Evaluates work performance of subordinate employees.

Identifies developmental and training needs of employees. Provides or arranges for needed development and training.

Interviews candidates for positions within the Bowling Center Program, recommends appointment, promotion or reassignment to such positions. Hears and resolves complaints from employees, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to higher level supervisor. Effects minor disciplinary measures such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases. Finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work directed. Ensures that employees observe regulations and rules on good housekeeping and conduct. Supports and implements all safety and occupational health programs.

Implements general and specific provisions designed to assure that policies to achieve management objectives in such areas as employee management, relations and equal opportunity are effectively carried out. Conditions of employment

  • Must pass all applicable records and background check.

  • The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as lifting heavy objects over 40 pounds in weight, crouching and crawling in confined areas.
  • The work involves moderate risks and discomforts which require special safety precautions (e.g. working around moving parts of the pinspotting machine).

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess:

A professional knowledge of Bowling Center operations including snack bars and the ability to promote the bowling program. Knowledge of ABC, WIBC, and YABA bowling regulations. Skill in effectively managing the financial and physical resources associated with the Center's operation. Mechanical knowledge to maintain equipment in good operating condition. Ability to do troubleshooting, overhaul and repair Bowling Center equipment, including major and minor electrical/mechanical repairs.

Possess a thorough working knowledge of procedures, techniques and financial responsibilities related to the daily administration of the Bowling Center.

Ability to supervise.

Ability to interpret and adapt all applicable policies, regulations and verbal or written instructions in developing procedures, steps and methods to accomplish objectives.

This position does not have a positive education requirement.
