Summary
This position is located in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department in the Navy Region Southwest. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of semiskilled labor and cleaning tasks. Incumbent will be assigned to Harborside Gym, Naval Base San Diego MWR.
Duties
- Performs one or more of the following duties: scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using heavy (industrial-type) powered scrubbers and buffers.
- Vacuum cleans rugs, using heavy (industrial-type) vacuum cleaner.
- Adjusts, cleans, and oils these machines, and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments on them.
- Washes and replaces venetian blinds, changes light bulbs and washes ceiling fixtures and room partitions, using ladders and scaffolds.
- Moves heavy furniture, supplies and equipment.
- Keeps restrooms in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition.
- Cleans, disinfects and woodwork.
- Replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap.
- Maintains stock of cleaning materials and equipment and notifies supervisor when more are needed.
- Cleans showers, sauna, and steam room.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Conditions of Employment
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation.
- Irregular working hours may be required to include early shift, late shift, evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays
- Wearing of protective clothing and equipment may be required as situations warrant.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and skill sufficient to read signs, follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work safely while moving lightweight objects.
- Ability to use powered equipment and perform minor maintenance on this equipment.
- Ability to learn Material Safety Data Sheets.

Transcripts from foreign colleges must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency in order to be considered. Applicants are responsible to obtain and submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency which is a private U.S. organization. Credential evaluations are not free and applicants are responsible for the cost of the selected service. Foreign high school transcripts or diplomas do not require credential evaluation but must be in English or a certified translation.
