Summary

This position is located within the Navy Fitness Program, Morale, Welfare and Recreation MWR) Departments, within the San Diego Metro Sites. The purpose of this position is to serve as a facilities coordinator.

Duties

Incumbent is responsible for the maintenance, upkeep and appearance for all Fitness and Sports facilities under the direct supervision of the Installation Fitness Director/Manager. Incumbent is responsible for inspection, reporting general maintenance, janitorial, and leading a small team of employees to ensure compliance with Navy and DOD program standards to ultimately support quality of life programs for service members, families and other eligible customers.

40% Oversees the facilities, maintenance and janitorial of Fitness Centers, Gymnasiums, and outdoor sports fields. This includes full service cardio, weight room with variety of fitness equipment, men's and women's locker rooms, saunas, laundry room, basketball and racquetball courts, functional fitness/running areas. Through daily zone inspections, ensures the proper operation and maintenance of exercise equipment is performed in order to comply with safety regulations and that the facility is kept attractive and clean. Reports and logs any broken equipment directly to the fitness site managers and ensures any malfunctioning equipment is properly secured until repaired. Makes recommendations for the acquisition of fitness center equipment and necessary supplies and parts. Assists with the annual operating budgets for inclusion in the overall Fitness Program budget. Maintains records and prepares reports as required.

30% Ensures that Fitness Center operations comply with OSHA, BUMED, OPNAV, OPM and other related operating and safety policies, programs and instructions. Prepares standard operating written instructions and procedures concerning programs, operations and safe use of equipment for the safety and well-being of all personnel authorized to use the facility. Follows Navy Fitness standards by researching, planning for recapitalization and making recommendations for these acquisitions to meet Navy requirements and customer needs. Incumbent is responsible for all trouble calls and maintenance pertaining to fitness centers, gymnasiums and sports fields.

20% Directly supervises Fitness Program maintenance/janitorial staff, to include assigning work, setting priorities, approving absences and/or leave, evaluating performance, and ensuring safety and other required rules are followed at. all times. Refers difficult or unusual situations to his/her direct supervisor. Ensures all employee mandatory training is current. Monitors work and contributes to the overall evaluation of performance. Recommends performance awards or corrective disciplinary action as needed.

10% Clearly communicates with all Fitness and Sports personnel to ensure services, standards and expectations are being met. Supports special events and programs as necessary.

  • Must have knowledge gained through relevant work experience which enables the incumbent to competently and independently carry out day to day operations as described above.
  • Must possess skill in the effective management of the finances and physical resources of programs including property inventory.
  • Must be a mature individual with an adequate level of physical fitness, sound leadership, effective written and verbal communication skills. Considerable tact and diplomacy as well as finesse are required when interacting with staff members and customers.
  • Within 90 days of appointment, must possess and maintain a current CPR and AED Certification along with Navy Basic Fitness Certification.

The IRC includes a check of the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) records in the Alcohol and Drug Management Information Tracking System (ADMITS) database, a check of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) records in the Fleet and Family Support Management Information System (FFSMIS), and an installation security/base check via the Navy Justice Information System (NJIS) database and/or other law enforcement systems. This information will be used to determine suitability for the applicant in accordance with criteria for automatic and presumptive disqualifiers, per DoDI 1402.05.

Per Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1402.05. Background Checks on Individuals in DoD Child Care Services Programs, incumbents will be automatically disqualified for a conviction in either civilian or military court (to include any general, special, or summary court-martial conviction or if they received non-judicial punishment [under Article 15 or chapter 47 of Title 10, U.S.C]) for any of the following: a sexual offense, any criminal offense involving a child victim, or a felony drug offense. Additionally, the incumbent will be automatically disqualified if he/she has been held to be negligent in a civil adjudication or administrative proceeding concerning the death of or serious injury to a child or dependent person entrusted to the individual's care.

Non-U.S. citizens with fewer than three years of recent residential history in the U.S. may be determined ineligible for employment.
