Summary

This position is located in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department in the Navy Region Southwest. The primary purpose of the position is to operate farm-type tractors or attached equipment to maintain golf course grounds.

Duties

  1. Operates gas and/or diesel powered tractor drawn and tractor powered mowing equipment, including back-hoe, front-end loader, fairway mower, rough mower, a gang real mower, off-set counter-balanced rotary mower, aerator, fertilizer spreader and rod cutter on level or rolling terrain.

  2. Operates a dump truck and other types of heavy duty equipment, such as brush hog, rotary mowers, trim mowers, greens mowers, collar mowers, tee mowers, aerators, plows, chippers, diggers, and backhoes needed to do daily maintenance, make special repairs, and to do pruning, trimming or planting.

  3. Digs trenches, cleans ditches and removes weeds around buildings, fences, trees, shrubbery, sidewalks, roads and other such locations as required.

  4. Makes operational inspections of vehicles for loose parts, damaged or worn tires, proper oil level, battery conditions and similar items. Checks presence and usability of assigned equipment. Cleans assigned vehicles and equipment. Performs work relating to the operation, inspection, minor construction, repair, and maintenance of facility real and personal property, as required.

  5. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Conditions of employment

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background Investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

  • One and half years of experience relating to a golf course maintenance operation.

  • One year of experience operating tractors and other related heavy duty equipment.

  • Skill needed to maneuver driver operated machinery in small places, tight, confined spaces in a small turning radius and on various grades.

  • Skill needed to operate both the tractor and equipment and ability to manipulate both the tractor and the equipment controls at the same time.

  • Ability to make multiple connections between tractor and attached or towed equipment.

  • Skill and knowledge to hook up, alignment and setting the height of blades.

  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.

  • Possess or be able to applicable driver's licenses.
