Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Distributes Mails Internal/External
- Receives all facility mail from external sources, e.g., US Postal Service (USPS), United Parcel Service (UPS); Federal Express (FedEx); etc. Receipting and handling of hazardous and/or perishable materials, urgent and sensitive documents (e.g., Express Mail, Priority Mail, etc.) vary among the different carriers but generally require an employee signature acknowledging receipt.
- Mail Clerks drive a motorized mail truck to delivery points, which are in different buildings within the 97-acre complex. External (off-station) mail delivery is accomplished by means of driving a government-issued vehicle with as many as 10 delivery/pickup points at different locations within the city of Atlanta. The Mail Clerk is solely responsible for checking out the government vehicle, ensuring all vehicle systems are operating satisfactorily, and signing the vehicle back in upon completion of the mail run. The Mail Clerk is also responsible for returning the vehicle with a full tank of gas
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow VHA Policy, Regulations, Manuals, and procedures pertaining to all aspects of metered mail and mail room operations, and related procedures.

- Identifies problems with Mailroom processes, troubleshoots, and notifies leadership as appropriate.
- Identifies problems with Metered Mail Software/Equipment, and contacts appropriate authorities for resolution.
- Periodically performs quality assurance evaluations to ensure the continuing quality of completed pages. Transports bulk publications from the mailroom to the end user program and is able to apply that knowledge to the facility's functional and organizational offices.
- Uses the printer on a continuous basis at various stages of the printing process, checking to see that the work is acceptable and meets all requirements of the ordering office
- Controlled Mail and Pharmacy Package Processing 40 Percent Incumbent logs mail piece identification and date/time mail piece was received or identified through mail analysis. Sign the receipt for the mail piece when required by the carrier delivering to the facility. Incumbent has overall responsibility and accountability for all Pharmacy packages that have been received or picked up for shipment by the mailroom, to include scanning packages daily into the Send Suite Packaging Tracking System for complete tracking.
