There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Maintenance Mechanic duties. I can assist with maintenance and/or repair of industrial heating and boiling plant systems; industrial air conditioning systems; and/or secondary power distribution and utility hook-up systems. I am able to refer to diagrams, charts, or manuals to determine techniques and processes related to preventive maintenance repairs, and component replacements. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
- PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and climb for sustained periods of time. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally is required to carry heavier objects.
- WORKING CONDITIONS: Works on dirty greasy equipment in cramped quarters both indoors and out in all types of weather on slippery or uneven surfaces. Exposed to excessive noise and possibility of cuts and bruises from moving parts, sharp edges and power tools. Required wearing protective safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, and respirator. May be required to work in asbestos contaminated areas.
