Duties
A Maintenance Mechanic performs the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and various repair tasks throughout the medical center, including the trades of refrigeration, kitchen equipment repair, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing. These overall duties should be at or near a journeymen level ability. Assigned tasks are generally not as technical as major repairs and installations as required by an employee classified in an individual trade.
Mechanical: (55%)
Inspects, installs, maintains, troubleshoots, assembles, and repairs various types of mechanical devices including but not limited to, appliances, kitchen equipment, server lines, food processing equipment, pumps, ventilation equipment, heat transfer and condensing units, and various mechanical control devices. Must be able to use and interpret mechanical drawings and parts diagrams from manufacturers and suppliers. Must also be able to understand and work with different types of equipment and tools to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment properly and safely to manufacturer specifications.
Electrical Equipment Repairing (35%)
Troubleshoots and repairs various types of electromechanical devices. Examples include but are not limited to, electric ovens, dish washers, Retherm modules food preparation equipment, motor starters, switches, electrical solenoids, light bulbs, ballasts, and wall receptacles. Be able to read simple electrical diagrams in aid to help troubleshoot and repair equipment. Be able to understand and work safely with different voltages of electricity (24v,120v, 240v, and 480v) Must be able to use and interpret readings from various electrical measuring instruments such as amp-probes,
multimeters, megohmmeters technical specifications, schematics, blueprints, and engineering drawings in planning and laying out, and completing the installation, modification, and repair of various electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and controls.
Plumbing: (10%)
Performs plumbing tasks, such as replacing or repairing faucets, ballcocks, valves, diaphragms, clears clogged traps, drains, lines. Replaces defective pipes that are exposed such as on condensate drains, fittings, and connections.
Performs other duties that are assigned.

Physical Requirements: Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment or components from ladders, platforms, and scaffolding and in cramped or hard to reach areas. This can require walking long distances, prolonged standing, stooping, bending, and climbing in
uncomfortable or tiring positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. The incumbent occasionally may handle materials and equipment that weighs more than 50 lbs.
