Summary

This position is part of the Move Crew team members, assigned to the maintenance and Repair Section of Facilities Management Service for the VA Portland Health Care System, supporting Portland and Vancouver Divisions, Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC), and off campus warehouse.

Duties

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Incumbent operates platform, van, stake, panel, flatbed, van, crew cab and pickup trucks as well as a forklift. These vehicles maybe be gasoline, diesel or electric powered and typically have an approximate gross weight of more than 4,500 kilograms (10,000 pounds) and up to 11,700 kilograms (26,000 pounds) with special purpose equipment for transferring engine power to special purpose accessory equipment such as hydraulic lift.
  • Incumbent ensures supplies, linens, furniture/furnishings, and cargo in general is protected from the weather and is properly secured to prevent damage while in transit.
  • Verify material loaded for pick-up or delivery against documentation to prevent errors and to certify the condition of the items and get authorized signatures from receiving personnel.
  • Assists in coordinating movement and delivery of furniture and other items with officials from other services.
  • Responsible for maintaining the furniture & supplies inventory in FMS M&R furniture storage warehouses, the issue and receipt of new furniture, supplies, equipment, and other required item.
  • Incumbent will physically move furniture to area of request by utilizing furniture moving equipment such as hand trucks, carts, desks movers, file cabinet movers, etc.
  • This position requires to work on construction, alteration, repair, and modification such as: rough furniture, where accuracy, spacing and fit are essential, and appearance is important. Use skilled techniques to construct, install, repair, and modify wood and wood substitute furniture for items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness.
  • Assemble and repair a wide variety of structural items such as wall standards, furniture frames, partitions, and miscellaneous items such as workbenches, counter tops, bookcases, equipment cabinets, computer consoles, and articulated arms.
  • Prepare surfaces and use appropriate coating techniques in performing painting duties and apply coating techniques that will ensure surfaces have a smooth textured and decorative appearance and meet thickness and level requirements.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Specialized experience include the following but not limited to:
  • operate platform, van, stake, panel, flatbed, van, crew cab and pickup trucks as well as a forklift;
  • construct, install, repair, and modify wood and wood substitute furniture for items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness.;
  • interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine the layout and work sequences of installation projects..
  • prepares surfaces and applies coating techniques that will ensure surfaces have a smooth textured and decorative appearance and meet thickness and level requirements;
  • assemble items with a variety of joining techniques such as miters, rabbets, dados, biscuit, and mortise and tenon, and use glues and adhesives to secure wood pieces, veneers, and counter tops.
  • use wood, metal, and various composite materials when installing or replacing interior partitions, panels, suspended ceilings, counter tops, and moldings.

Driver's License Requirement: Applicants must possess a valid, unrestricted State driver's license, have a safe driving record, and demonstrate that he or she is medically qualified to operate the appropriate motor vehicle safely.
