Summary

The Construction Crew Maintenance Worker will be working with the in-house construction projects, or as directed. The Construction Crew Worker may also be detailed to other shops as necessary.

Duties

Major Duties:

  • Completes assigned projects and initial layout to final assembly or installation.
  • Will be assigned to construction/demolition, alteration, and repair of buildings and their appearances.
  • Requires the knowledge and skills to determine the kind and type of materials and tools that are needed to complete the assignment.
  • Ability to cut out openings in walls doors, plaster ceilings, etc. to let in door frames, view lights, access panels, and assisting plumbers, in plumbing, electrical workers, mechanics, duct work, ventilation work, etc.
  • Must be able to safely operate saber saws, table saws, radial arm saw, portable circular saws, jointers, surface planer, hammer drills, impact hammers, routers, chop saws, drill press, grinders, belt sanders, band saw etc. and be able to use hand tool for their intended purpose, and to clean and maintain equipment and tools in good working order.
  • Skill in matching, tinting, toning to be painted or covered application of primers, finishing coats, and wall coverings.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Physical Requirements: Requires moderate to strenuous effort and long periods of walking, standi4, climbing, bending, and crouching. Occasionally works from ladders, scaffolds and platforrils, and may perform strenuous work. This requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, knel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and is occasionally required to handle items that weigh more with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers.

Working Conditions:
A. Works in areas on equipment requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, facemasks; respirators (negative pressure or, poser air purifying types, etc.). Occasionally works in areas and on equipment that may result in expose to airborne asbestos fibers (PPE) will be provided and required to be worn.
B. The work is performed both inside and outside. Incumbent may be required to make repairs and installation in bad weather, in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet; manholes of 30 feet deep, and occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors. Incumbent are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises and occasionally work in areas requiring the use of respirators.
C .Some assignments will require the fabrication or repairs of cabinets, furniture, book, cases, desks, or special applications for patient care or research. The incumbent will need to know the special needs and requirements of the assignment and have a better judgment in its serviceability once constructed.
D. May be required to make roof repairs using various types of materials and methods, including chalking compounds, latex and cold patch. Install( and make repairs to door and doorframes, mortise out stiles for hinges placement, instill' and repair door closures, panic hardware, view lights, doorstops, kick plates, weather stripping, etc. Install or repair ceiling tiles, bulletin boards, bathroom fixtures, windows replacement of glass and hardware, cove base cabinets: wall and base, hangers for medical equipment, blackout shade, window shades, ceramic tile, crash rails and hand rails, mirrors, pictures, etc. Incumbent shall be required to complete asbestos removal and disposal.
E. Some work is performed in shop areas where the worker is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue fumes, and hazards associated with! woodworking and related power equipment. When working at job sites, workers may be exposed to weather conditions and the hazards of working on and around scaffolds and 14dders. They are subject to cuts, bruises, and contusions. The Construction Crew Worker May work in confined areas such as crawl spaces and attics which may be dusty and dirty They use protective devices such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, and gloves.
