Duties

Major Duties:
The position of Maintenance Mechanic is assigned to the Electric Shop within Facilities Management. The incumbent is responsible for a variety of functions, including assignments as, but not limited to, Carpenter, Electronics Mechanic, and Industrial Equipment Mechanic.

Carpenter

  • Installs, disassembles, and repairs systems and freestanding furniture and shelving.
  • Hangs wall items such as clocks, pictures, plaques, coat racks and hangers.
  • Perform repairs to wheelchairs, exam tables, carts, and door closures.
  • Performs carpentry repairs such as touch up painting, wall repair, cove base repair, etc.
  • Incumbent installs, repairs drywall including taping and sanding, prepping for paint.
  • Incumbent installs, repairs flooring such as VCT, Planking, and seamless vinyl.
Electronics Mechanic
  • Performs minor repairs, installations, of small non-medical devices such as Patient TV's, nurse call pendants, overhead bed light switches.
  • Repairs, inspects patient wheelchairs.
  • Performs minor electrical repairs, inspections, calibration, and installation of electrical equipment such as electronic beds, patient and handicap lifts, and miscellaneous equipment as assigned.
Industrial Equipment Mechanic
  • Repairs, inspects, installs equipment such as janitorial scrubbers and vacuums, morgue lift, dock leveler, interior and exterior security gates, shredders, dry-mount press, pneumatic tube system and stations, miscellaneous equipment as assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining, inspecting, and repairing operating tables, and manual beds.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and carts.
Painter
  • Incumbent prepares surface for painting.
  • Incumbent applies coatings, paint, and sealers with proper tools of the trade.
  • Responsible for ensuring that surface coatings meet level and thickness requirements.
  • Tints, tones, matches, and blends coating materials to get the proper color, texture, consistency, and drying state.
Maintenance Mechanic
  • Performs a variety of duties to ensure the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and related structures, fixtures, and utilities are maintained.
  • Responsible for visually examining repair work needed to maintain property and equipment.
  • Performs other incidental work operations such as welding, fabricating/machining parts, checking and replacing electrical wiring/connections, etc.
  • Performs monthly inspections required by The Joint Commission such as emergency battery light testing, outlet testing, line isolation monitors.
The incumbent performs and documents all repairs and preventative maintenance activities and ensures that the data is correctly entered into the MAXIMO, DHCP AEMS/MERS computer system.

The incumbent identifies, prepares, and communicates orders for parts and materials needed to complete repairs on all assigned equipment. Maintains an efficient stock of parts to provide for scheduled preventative maintenance on all assigned equipment and to conduct rapid repairs on critical equipment.

To ensure the safe and reliable operation of equipment for all patients and staff, the incumbent serves as in-service educator to staff on such topics as appropriate maintenance procedures, proper operational techniques, and safety. The incumbent also provides cross training on the theory of operation, maintenance, basic troubleshooting, repair, and part/material acquisition of a variety of equipment to his/her peers for the purpose of expanding backup support.

In performing repairs, the incumbent is responsible for determining the most economical and efficient means of completing the repair. Attention is given to the device repair history, user needs, parts and service availability, and the need for stocking parts in-house.

The incumbent assists staff in evaluating equipment proposed for purchase. Pre-purchase evaluations may consist of an overall review of operation, recurring maintenance needs, ease of servicing, availability of parts/materials, etc.

The incumbent acquires training from in-house as well as outside sources (e.g. attendance in community college courses, vendor service schools, conferences/seminars, etc.) to maintain and improve his/her working knowledge of equipment repair.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Physical Effort:

Much of the work is performed while standing, sitting, or kneeling, frequently in awkward and uncomfortable positions for sustained periods of time. Some bending and stretching are required as well as occasionally climbing ladders. Individually, the incumbent may occasionally have to lift awkward shaped devices weighing up to 40 pounds from the floor to waist height.

Work Environment:

There is continuous exposure to hazardous conditions involving moving/rotating objects, sharp edges, steam, and high pressures/vacuums. This requires constant attention to safe work habits and the proper use of personal protective equipment.
