Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program in accordance with AR 600-85.
- Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program acknowledging periodic random testing is mandatory prior to being placed into this position.
- Those individuals not currently occupying a TDP position must successfully complete a pre-appointment drug test prior to being placed into this position and periodically thereafter.
- This position requires completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The position requires the ability to lift heavy objects (45 pounds) specific to the position, vision for distance, distinguishing colors and calibrations, appropriate hearing capability for conversation and warning signals.
- Position requires incumbent to possess a valid state driver's license; and a class C, Type 1 Driver's license.
- Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL with correct endorsements.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common maintenance mechanic tasks such as painting, carpentry, repairing irrigation systems, plumbing repairs, and welding. Ability to operate all associated tools and equipment related to the sub journeyman level skills. Ability to operate and maintain forklifts, backhoes, and tractor-trailers. Ability to perform daily operation checks of this equipment - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms. Works in hard to reach places. Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts up to 40 pounds. Heavy physical effort is used when operating equipment in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibrations of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Because of the location of some of the controls and attachments, the operator is frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions.
Maintenance work is done inside and outside and is dirty, dusty, and greasy. Work is performed in bad weather and in noisy areas. The worker is exposed to possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, burns, cuts, and bruises. Equipment is operated in all types of weather, often in an open driver's seat or platform, on hills, slopes, grades, steep, unstable or rocky grounds, rolling surfaces, and forests. The incumbent is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning. Is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. Workboat operation occurs in all types of weather and in lake and river environments. Incumbent is exposed to extreme heat and cold, wet and icy conditions, high waves as well as operates in fog, work in strong current and shallow water and possible collision with floating or submerged obstructions.
