Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Position performs work involving the repair, maintenance, and installation of facilities nonproduction industrial plant machinery, equipment and systems, pipefitting and electrician duties.

Duties

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs industrial equipment at a journeyman level.
  • Works from oral instructions, wiring diagrams, and work orders from shop work leader of supervisor.
  • Installs new equipment following manufacturer's manuals and makes adjustments to assure proper operation of the unit.
  • Performs the full range of pipefitting duties such as maintaining, installing, repairing, and modifying steam heating and distribution system up to 135psi, steam generation, hydraulic and vacuum systems, radiators, and circulating pumps.
  • Installs, repairs or replaces, modifies, loads, and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, disconnects, and controls located in and near installation buildings and structures.

  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position involves duties that are subject to Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations regarding hazardous wastes.
  • Position requires pre-employment physical and annually thereafter.
  • This position is subject to day/night shift changes.
  • The employee may be required to work overtime.
  • The employee may be recalled to duty.
  • The employee may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis.
  • This position requires the employee to possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • This position requires the employee to possess the applicable license(s) or authorizations(s) to operate assigned equipment or perform assigned duties.
  • The incumbent is required to lift up to 44 lbs.
  • This position requires 5% TDY
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision, which includes (1) Maintenance of piping systems and equipment used in utility systems; (2) Maintenance, and repair of Industrial equipment; and (3) Demonstrate proper work methods in Pipefitting and Industrial Equipment repair.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Work requires frequent handling of objects weighing up to 44 pounds; assistance or lifting devices are available to lift and carry of objects weighing in excess of 44 pounds. Employee is required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crouch, kneel, climb, and work in cramped positions over and under machinery for substantial periods of time. Occasionally, platforms and scaffolding are used.
  • Working Conditions: Usually perform work inside areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. Exposer to the possibility of cuts and bruises, electrical shocks, respiratory ailments, noise and vibration from machines, bad weather and sudden temperature changes. Occasionally they climb and work from ladders, staging, scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more exposing the repairers to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Frequently encounters dirt, grease, and dampness. Ability to understand and use electrical safety practices to include lock out tag out, switching procedures, hot work, grounding, approach boundaries, confined spaces, labeling, and risk assessment. Uses Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, face shields, respirators, safety shoes, glasses ARC flash gear.
