Summary

This position is located in the Engineering Construction Project Department of the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC), Phoenix, AZ. The primary purpose of this position is to provide construction labor to complete remodeling, renovation, and construction projects approved by hospital leadership and assigned by the Supervisor.

Duties

  • Installation and demolition of primary and secondary distribution systems, emergency generators, transfer switches, transformers, high and low-voltage switchgear, AC and DC motors, motor control installation and troubleshooting, interior and exterior lighting, battery-powered equipment and related battery charges, nurse call, fire alarm and access control in a health care hospital setting.
  • Install refrigeration and air conditioning systems by positioning compressors, motors, condensers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, evaporators, heaters, and other components in accordance with design specifications.
  • Knowledge of wood and wood substitute materials, and construction techniques. Skill in the use of hammers, handsaws, planes, screwdrivers, power saws, power sanders, and power drills.
  • Knowledge of standard plumbing methods and techniques, such as to measure, cut, bend, and thread pipe, caulk and seal elbows, union joints, and fixtures, and hookups.

WG-4749-07: Must demonstrate ability such as measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs, and modifies wood, composite, and wood substitute, hook up to installed systems such things as water heaters, disposal units, and faucets, sand, wire brush, scrape, spackle, and putty surfaces.

WG-4749-08: Must demonstrate ability such as construct and installs window frames, door frames, inside walls, floors, ceilings, closets, counters, shelves, casing, wood foundations, and similar structures, Installs and repairs water mains, sewage lines, hydrants, unit gas heaters, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers and water softeners, applies prime, intermediate and finished coats including decorative finishes by stippling, graining, marbling and mottling independently.

WG-4749-09: Must demonstrate ability such as preventative maintenance to office buildings and related structural integrity that required use of light carpentry skills to repairs or replacement of light fixtures, test HVAC system, the use of metric tools, and pressure testing equipment.

WG-4749-10: Must demonstrate ability such as perform preventive maintenance methods for repairs, troubleshoot commercial HVAC systems, installation of 120 volt and 220 volt outlets, specialty techniques repair plumbing systems, valves, installation of cabinets and shelving, use of manual and gas powered equipment and specialty tools, and hydraulic machines, paint equipment and building in accordance to federal facility standards.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.

This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.

This position has promotion potential to the GS-10 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval. Promotion to the next higher grade level is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied.
