Serves as a Maintenance Mechanic (PPOE) in the Engineering Department of the Hale Koa Hotel.

Duties

Operating Engineer monitors the building for safe conditions and proper functioning of building systems, fixtures, hardware and performs reactive/preventative maintenance on assigned equipment. Operating Engineer must be able to understand, operate and maintain building management system controls. Must be able to keep plant and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly environment. Primary responsibilities are daily maintenance, tuning, monitoring, controlling, troubleshooting and repair of physical plant systems and equipment. Additional responsibilities include keeping a spare parts inventory, maintenance, planning/scheduling, inspections, record keeping and reporting. Engineer operates and maintains various safety control devices, steam traps, valves, reducing stations, strainers, gaskets, burner assemblies and heat recovery equipment. Engineer applies knowledge of the principles and theories pertaining to combustion, heat transfer, and steam or high temperature hot water generation in the operation of boilers & chillers. Engineer operates, adjusts, troubleshoots and maintains equipment and systems through knowledge of the structural and operating characteristics Engineer uses a computerized maintenance management work order system (HotSOS) to communicate work status, acknowledge, start, stop, track time, completes work orders and provides timely and constant communication with leadership/team members. Engineer maintains logs, tools and orders supplies as required for various building repairs. Physical Plant Systems include (but not limited to): Fire life safety, Fire monitoring systems, Potable Water Systems, pneumatics, Chilled water loop/HVAC and Alternative power sources. Primary equipment of responsibility: Fire Pumps, Generators, Chillers, cooling towers, Boilers, storage tanks, compressors, pumps, etc.

  • Must be able to obtain a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, holidays and various hours of the day and week when required.
  • Must possess and are able to maintain a valid/current driver’s license.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

- Must have at least three (3) years of work experience in operating and maintenance of Boilers & HVAC equipment to include fire pumps, generators, chillers, cooling towers, storage tanks, compressors, pumps, etc.
- Must be able to communicate in English and have the ability to utilize an automated work order management system.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":
- Possess a Class Four Boiler Operator certification.

  • This job is open to candidates who live in this commuting area (the Island of Oahu). If determined that area of consideration is to be expanded, all candidates will be considered. If you reside outside of the local commuting area, relocation costs will be at your expense.

PCS Costs:
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized based upon a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
Allowances and Differentials:
  • This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week - whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
