Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the Ability to Lead or Supervise common Maintenance Mechanic duties, such as assisting with maintenance and/or repair of industrial heating and boiling plant systems; industrial air conditioning systems; and/or secondary power distribution and utility hook-up systems. Referring to diagrams, charts, or manuals to determine techniques and processes related to preventive maintenance repairs, and component replacements. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. -
Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.
- Physical Effort: Requires some standing on concrete floors, climbing ladders, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts, carries, and positions items weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, where there is frequent exposure to severe heat, extreme cold, inclement weather of all kinds, and work is performed in dusty, dirty, greasy, and otherwise unsanitary environments. Subject to injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns, and electrical shock; also may be exposed to excessive noise from equipment, power tools, etc. Protective clothing and safety equipment must be worn when exposed to hazardous working conditions.
