This position is a TERM position. Position is temporary and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years. This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met and a conversion opportunity exists. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating at least fully successful or equivalent.

Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision.
WG-08 Level: Maintenance Worker: Perform various maintenance duties under close supervision such as rough carpentry work, machinery repair, sandblasting and painting, pipe fitting, equipment operations, concrete maintenance and repair. Operate heavy equipment to include but not limited to overhead cranes, skid steers, dump trucks, aerial lifts, and forklifts to safely and accurately maneuver supplies and materials to accomplish repair, replacement or creation of projects.

WG-05 Level: Maintenance Worker Helper: Perform, simple and a variety of basic maintenance repairs on mechanical or hydraulic equipment. I have received training on the use of various power tools. Safely operate a variety of motor vehicles to include forklifts, dump trucks, etc.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

- Physical effort: Requires considerable standing, stooping, and bending. Works from ladders and scaffolds requiring prolonged overhead work or working in cramped or awkward positions. Climbs vertical ladders of up to 100 feet in height. Frequently lifts, positions, and carries items such as bricks, block, stone, mortar, cement, and sand weighing from 50 to 100 pounds.
- Working conditions: Work is performed largely outside during the day or night subject to inclement weather and extreme temperature variations, on high structures usually over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and energized electrical equipment, and sometimes on floating craft or elevated platforms. Occasionally will work behind bulkheads which are below the water level. Incumbent is also subject to falls, drowning, injury, discomfort, hazardous atmospheres and loud noises. Uses safety equipment such as hearing and eye protection, Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs), hard hats, hard toe shoes, safety belts, respirators, protective clothing and other personal protective equipment. Working conditions have been considered in evaluation of the job, and any instances of environmental differential pay are spelled out in the Negotiated Agreement. Temporary duty assignments may be required for training purposes.
