You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common maintenance and repair tasks, including performing installation, repair, or maintenance at facilities with boilers, including boiler plants and auxiliary equipment. I can repair pipe systems that carry water, steam, air, or other liquids or gases. I may assist in installing heating and cooling equipment. I am able to determine the correct power tools and equipment to use. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and where equipment is worked on in hard to reach places. Work requires considerable overhead work that must be done from extension ladders, staging, forklifts, and structural support beams. Frequently lifts and carries item weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Exposed to the possibility of burns from steam and high temperature hot water, and heat exhaustion from working in heating distribution manholes. Exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes and bruises; occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones from falls from ladders and/or platforms. Subject to the possibility of electric shock. Exposed to explosive nature of combustible gas. Frequently exposed to asbestos when removing insulation and carcinogens from fuel lines. Required wearing protective clothing and breathing apparatus(respirator).
