Duties

  • Performs a variety of tasks involving the maintenance and repair of recreational grounds, buildings and structures, and appurtenant fixtures.
  • Uses such tools as hammers, chisels, handsaws, planes, screwdrivers, and glue guns, power saws/sanders/drills to build partitions, chair rails, baseboards and shelving.
  • Replaces ceiling light and/or burned out bulbs. Repairs faucets, resets toilets, and lavatories.
  • Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials to and from trucks, dollies, etc.; moves heavy boxes/cartons by hand or dolly; opens crates and boxes using crowbar, cuts bands using shears; stacks boxes and cartons as directed.
  • May be required to drive vehicles up to and including a 5-ton truck to move furniture, etc., to various buildings on the installation.

  • The worker makes repairs and installations from floor level, ground level, and from ladders.
  • Work requires standing, stooping, bending, climbing, crawling, and kneeling for extended periods in uncomfortable positions.
  • Worker may lift and move materials weighing up to 40 pounds and, occasionally heavier items with assistance.
  • The work will be performed both indoors and outdoors.
  • Exposed to dust and dirt.
  • The worker may be required to perform in bad weather when having to work outdoors.
  • The worker will be exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, burns, and broken bones from falling objects or when working on ladders or driving a motor vehicle.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, Chapter 2.
  • Incumbent is required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • A health assessment is required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license to operate assigned government vehicles. The employee must maintain a current driver’s license while in this job.
  • May be required to work days, evenings, weekends, special events and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate in English at a level to assure the duties described can be accomplished in a safe and satisfactory manner.
  • Demonstrated skills in successfully operating standard tools.
  • Experience in accomplishing the types of duties described in this job.
  • Must have a working knowledge of wood working techniques and basic shop mathematics.
  • Must be skilled in use and operation of common hand and power tools and measuring devices of the carpentry and painting trades to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Must have a knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating methods and techniques.
  • Must have ability to read and follow basic blueprints and sketches.
  • Must have skill in manipulating controls of a motor vehicle.

PCS Costs
  • Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not included, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
FWS Allowances and Differentials
  • This is a federal wage schedule (FWS) position.
  • All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee.
  • Regular full-time, regular part-time (to include those in a limited tenure appointment category) and regularly scheduled flexible employees are entitled to Sunday premium pay when working Sunday shifts. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 7.5% for the entire shift when a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 1500 and 2400. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 10% of the scheduled rate if a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 2300-0800.
Incentives and Bonuses
  • Incentives may be paid.
  • Up to 25% recruitment and/or a retention incentive may be authorized.
Non-Foreign Overseas Allowances
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
