SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
To qualify at the GS-12 level: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience:
- Implementing, designing or researching economic development strategies or policies, with a focus on regional and/or placed-based initiatives
- Drafting written materials (e.g., briefs, memos, decks) for leadership and external audiences detailing; and
- Supporting outreach and engagement activities for regional development; and
- Monitoring project execution identifying and resolving project risks, to include ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and deliverables
To qualify at the GS-13 level: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience:
- Independently developing written materials (e.g., briefs, memos, decks) for leadership and external audiences; and
- Identifying and engaging with diverse sets of stakeholders, across public, private, and civic spheres; and
- Developing, monitoring and evaluating frameworks to oversee projects or a portfolio of investment; and
- Leading management of complex, multi-stakeholder projects or programs, and
- Researching, analyzing, and recommending economic development strategies or policies, with a focus on regional and/or place-based initiatives
The desired candidate will possess experience in: areas related to EDA's National Programs, such as economic development or competitiveness, technology innovation or commercialization, workforce development, national security, regional cluster management, entrepreneurship, capital investment and management, or philanthropy.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
