Summary


This position will be assigned to the JBSA Fort Sam Houston Marketing Office located in San Antonio, TX.

This is a regular part-time category position with guaranteed 20 hours per week. May work up to 40 hrs./wk.

Employees appointed to a regular category position are eligible for benefits.

Duties

Assists in developing and implementing marketing programs for the FSS Squadron. Under the direction of the Marketing Director, assists in determining marketing techniques and strategies to increase efficiency, enhance participation and increase financial income to FSS activities. Assists in conducting qualitative and quantitative market research. Using standard industry practice and computer software adapts or modifies research techniques for local purposes. Administers surveys, collects data, tabulates responses, and assist the Marketing Director in analyzing results. Keeps the Marketing Director informed of consumer trends and their application to the activities. Makes recommendations to the Marketing Director on program modifications and enhancements. Attends major FSS Squadron events and provides constructive marketing feedback to the activity manager. Assists in conducting advertising/publicity campaigns. Obtains information on upcoming events and special programs from activity managers. Assists the Marketing Director in developing communication strategies to determine the most effective and efficient method of reaching the target market. Makes recommendations to activity managers on the design of effective advertising vehicles and appropriate media mix. Assists in planning marketing campaigns designed to enhance participation in FSS activities by considering the characteristics or the target audience and the media mix necessary to reach them. Assists in conducting media relations with on- and off-base media in concert with the Public Affairs Office. Provides or arranges for photographic support for FSS functions. Prepares and presents briefings to base functions such as newcomers' orientations and Commander's Calls. Through subordinates, produces necessary and appropriate FSS publicity to include: FSS newspaper supplements, FSS publication, brochures, booklets, flyers, posters, etc. Supervises personnel in the site marketing department and effectively plans schedules, assigns, directs the work of others in an equitable manner. Makes supervisory decisions that will result in obtainable goals and well -balanced marketing of the FSS activities. Effectively performs supervisory personnel administrative responsibilities, initiates personnel actions and participates in the interview/selection process or new employees to fill vacant site positions, schedules and grants leave, deals effectively with employees on employee suggestions, complaints, grievances, and other matters involved in the day-to-day administration of the office. Identifies training opportunities. Provides budget input (appropriated and non-appropriated) to the Marketing Director. Oversees financial expenditures for the site office . Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have responsible experience of marketing/advertising principles and practices. Must have experience in typing and computer based word processing (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Graphics/Publishing software (lnDesign, Photo Shop, Illustrator, etc.). Experience must demonstrate how to perform research, select, arrange and compose material and maintain well-organized files. Applicant must have experience in typing and computer based word processing (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Graphics/Publishing software (lnDesign, Photo Shop, Illustrator, etc.). Must have specialized experience which demonstrates the ability to design and layout advertising copy and artwork using desk top publishing software, word processing and other software. Must have experience developing, conducting and analyzing market research information specialized experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Undergraduate degree in business, marketing, communications, news media, public relations or a related field is strongly desired.
2. Knowledge of merchandising and marketing policies, procedures, methods, and publicity techniques to evaluate strengths or weaknesses, and to develop new or alter existing programs to meet desired goals and promote patronage.
3. Skill in written and oral communication techniques to explain, justify and present ideas and findings of a variety of issues in a logical manner and prepare presentations and analysis in a clear and concise manner using a high degree of tact and diplomacy.
4. Ability to perform research, select, arrange and compose material and maintain well-organized files.
5. Knowledge of marketing/advertising principles and practices
6. Skills in typing and computer bused word processing (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Graphics/Publishing software (lnDesign, Photo Shop, Illustrator, etc.)
7. Ability to read, write and speak English.
8. Skill in dealing with customers and public.
