DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT:All applicants must possess a valid driver's license to operate various types of motor vehicles.(Please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. You will be required to show your valid commercial driver's license at the time of your interview.)
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to drive a truck for several hours to reach the remote location of service. Incumbent is required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, climb and stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. They may lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, with heavier items being moved with handling equipment or the assistance of other workers. She/he moves supplies and materials with pallet jacks, forklifts and through physical labor. During travel, considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs. The duties require considerable dexterity, hand, foot and eye coordination, and concentration.
WORK CONDITIONS: This position will operate motor vehicles in all types of traffic and weather conditions on public roads and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Incumbent works both outdoors and indoors, including areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, and/or poorly lighted. Regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. Appropriate protective gear (e.g., gloves, support belt, steel toe shoes) will be supplied and shall always be utilized by the material handler to minimize such risks. Must be able to sit for long periods of time while driving and is exposed to road hazard conditions daily. The incumbent will apply all established safety practices, will report unsafe conditions and unsafe practices to the supervisor and will report any occupational injury or illness in a prompt practical manner.
