Summary

About the Position: The Materials Handler performs a variety of warehousing duties for the Property Management Section, Medical Maintenance Branch that include receiving, processing, researching, storing, issuing, and documenting all medical equipment movement. Working hours are Monday - Friday 0730 to 1600. The position is located at Martin Army Community Hospital, Fort Benning, Georgia.

Duties

  • Manage the receipt, issue, storage, and transportation of supplies, equipment, furniture, and miscellaneous items to and from the hospital warehouse or other associated locations.
  • Perform loading and unloading of furniture, equipment, and supply items in support of internal and external customers.
  • Operate electric, gasoline, diesel, or propane powered forklifts capable of lifting loads weighing up to 6,000 pounds.
  • Ensure a preventive maintenance check is completed for all material handling equipment on a daily basis.
  • Operate motor vehicles up to a 5-ton capacity to transport supplies and equipment between the warehouse and customer locations.
  • Utilize government procurement tracking systems and software for maintaining supply and equipment data.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Position requires heavy lifting up to 70 pounds.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common materials handler tasks such as operating equipment to move goods from a warehouse or storage setting; loading and unloading goods for delivery; operating a vehicle to safely deliver supplies and equipment; determining proper configuration floor space and shelving to optimize storage capacities. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Incumbent occasionally works outside or in areas that are poorly ventilated, and he/she is exposed to drafts, dirt, grease, and the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises; wear and/or uses personal protection devices as deemed necessary by management because of inherent health hazards involved.
