Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE One Year. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a term appointment will be appointed/converted into a term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to lead or supervise. Applicants must meet the screen out elements to be considered further for the Materials Handler Supervisor, which includes operating a 33,000-pound gross vehicle weight (GVW) truck to transport explosives, ammunition, and ammunition components for production and shipping sites; and loading and unloading freight cars and trucks of ammunition, in compliance with rules and regulations of the agencies having cognizance over the handling of explosives. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
- Physical Effort: Physical demands are arduous. At times, it is necessary to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. Kneeling, standing, bending, and working in awkward positions are necessary at times. Good color vision is necessary for proper identification of different types of ammunition. Must be physically fit in order to possess an explosives driver's license.
- Working Conditions: Both indoors and outside. Work is routinely performed in unheated and poorly illuminated magazines and warehouses. Exposed to natural ambient environments of heat, cold, dirt, dust, rain, ice, and snow. Work is routinely performed in remote/isolated areas. HAZARDS: Exposed to danger of explosion and fire while working with explosives, chemicals, fuels, loaded pyrotechnics, and deteriorated or damaged explosive ordnance items.
