Summary

About the Position: This position is located at Darnall Army Medical Center, Department of Medicine, Fort Cavazos, TX.

Duties

  • Recognizes artifacts, patient movements and EEG findings and makes changes in recording techniques and parameters to optimize display of the phenomenon in question.
  • Performs polygraphic overnight polysomnography.
  • Conducts activation procedures including hyperventilation, photic stimulation used in the assessment of cerebral reactivity and sleep.
  • Annotates seizures and behavior on the EEG records in real time (i.e., as the test is occurring).
  • Conducts electroencephalograms on patients in the Laboratory and/or in the wards utilizing EEG and Electromygraphic equipment in order to record various brain wave patterns.
  • Reviews patient's clinical history for common and complicated medical conditions pertinent to the performance of the EEG procedures.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience conducting electroencephalographic (EEG) examinations, operating and monitoring electroencephalographic (EEG) equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR

Education: Half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education (a) with a major field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as biology or medical technology, OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in courses such as biology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, medical technology, or physics. Of the 24 semester hours, at least 12 must have been in a field directly related to the specialization of the position as identified in (a).

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
