Summary

About the Position: This position is located with the 6th Medical Group, MacDill Air Force Base, Hillsborough County, Florida.

Duties

  • Analyze and develop mechanisms for tracking of protected health information (PHI) flow to minimize breaches of privacy.
  • Respond to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) complaints of possible and alleged privacy violations received internally and/or externally, recommend actions based on established law, regulations and policies.
  • Conduct and oversee Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Patient Privacy Training, ensuring receipt of initial and refresher training, to maintain workforce awareness and introduce changes to privacy policies.
  • Establish and/or implement training metrics to track status of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training; take corrective action to address training shortfalls.
  • Use computer software to prepare statistical reports, trend spreadsheets, educational PowerPoint presentations, and a variety of documents.
  • Manage Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for the hospital, determine appropriateness of releases, conduct redaction, and formulate appropriate responses within established timelines.
  • Present in-briefs with management officials to explain the purpose for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) review, answers questions.
  • Conduct monthly audits of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act compliance such as information risk assessments, to identify negative trends or problem areas and report findings.
  • Apply evaluation techniques (e.g., interviews, computer assisted techniques, statistical analysis and questionnaires) to gather, document, and summarize data for monthly reports.

  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be willing to travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle up to 25 percent of the time.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating and analyzing the organization and operation of medical records services, recommending and/or implementing revisions and/or modifications. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-7).

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in Medical Records Administration, ore related fields such as Health Information Management, Health Informatics Administration. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
