Duties
Serves as a Medical Records Technician with the responsibility to provide support of the day-to-day operations of the Aerospace Medical Certification Division (AMCD) by performing basic and routine tasks such as receiving and processing incoming mail (mostly medical records) under the general direction of a manager, supervisor, team leader, or more experienced employee.
The work activities typically support the work of other employees (Legal Instruments Examiners, physicians, etc.) and contribute to the activities and mission of the AMCD.
Typical tasks and/or assignments include receiving and processing incoming mail (mostly medical records), updating computer data systems, merging duplicate electronic medical records, reconciling electronic records, maintaining and preparing file folders and medical records for review by an examiner or physician, providing clerical and medical record support to the Federal Air Surgeon¿s medical specialty panels, providing clerical and medical record support to the various medical certification tasks within AMCD, and communicating with internal and external stakeholders.
Contacts are primarily internal to the Federal Aviation Administration and the Office of Aerospace Medicine, but may have a significant external component. Internal contacts, typically, are with managers and other employees to share information and/or discuss the status of assigned tasks. External contacts, typically, are with applicants for a medical certificate and/or their advocates or other parties on routine matters that relate to the medical application.
Demonstrates some independence in planning time, but frequently coordinates with a manager, supervisor, team leader, or more experienced employee to prioritize tasks and use assigned resources.
Applies limited experience and detailed knowledge to plan and accomplish tasks and has some understanding of how administrative assignments contribute to the activities and mission of the AMCD. Established policies/procedures provide guidance for almost all tasks, but provide some discretion for the employee to select the most appropriate approach(es). Works under general instructions provided by a manager, supervisor, team leader, or more experienced employee.
Refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee when guidelines are not available or applicable. May assist in developing and recommending solutions on some occasions.
