Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-04: One (1) year of general experience
OR, successfully completed two (2) years of education above the high school level.
GS-05: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level
OR four (4) years above the high school level.
General Experience: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Examples of specialized experience at the GS-05 level: Assisting patients in completing forms and determining their status for eligibility for coverage, interviewing patients to obtain pertinent patient registration information, i.e., demographic and insurance information, initiating or retrieving health records, enter information into patient registration systems, ensuring accuracy for all required forms, schedule appointments, respond to inquiries and requests through telephone, correspondence and personal visits, record keeping, maintain record of confidentially and safeguard patient information, use electronic systems to provide clerical office support.
OR, successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
