Job Responsibilities

  • Administer and distribute medication to inmates in various locations such as the Health Services Unit and Special Housing Units.
  • Ensure the administration of Oral, Topical, and other medications is consistent with safe medical practices, including the accurate identification of patients, medication, dosage, time, and route.
  • Report and record adverse medication reactions accurately.
  • Assist pharmacists and staff in pharmacy-related activities like entry of physician orders, preparation of medications, and inventory management.
  • Maintain the security of the institution alongside correctional institution staff responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Completion of a certified program in nursing assistant, medical assistant, pharmacy technician, vocational/practical nursing, or emergency medical technician (EMT) required.
  • One year of specialized experience in support duties to medical or health personnel.
  • Knowledge of various methods, techniques, and procedures related to medical equipment and automated systems is essential.
  • Ability to recognize and report changes in a patient's physical and emotional condition.
  • Understanding of safety principles and infection control.

Education

Graduate education or internship related to the medical field is desirable for placement above GL-05 grade. Transcripts evidencing educational accomplishments must be provided.
