SCREEN OUT: Ability to perform the duties of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. This includes: operating vans, trucks, shuttle busses, etc. for delivering items and transporting passengers/patients to and from a facility; uses proper loading and unloading techniques to avoid injuries to self and others; track/log travel miles and gas usage; maneuvering vehicles within close tolerances when driving, to include backing up in narrow and congested areas, between buildings and other vehicles, and when positioning for loading and unloading passengers/patients, cargo and/or equipment; completing trip tickets; and performing operator maintenance on vehicles such as checking fluid levels, tire air pressure, cleaning, and washing vehicles. PHYSICAL EFFORT: This position requires using sound judgment and maintain mental and physical poise; must handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally more with assistance; assists on an infrequent basis, medical personnel in the transfer of litter patients to and from beds and litters, and the loading/unloading of patients to and from litter vans. Tasks often require physical exertion such as walking, turning, stooping, bending, etc.
WORK CONDITIONS: A substantial portion of daily activity involves the transporting of passengers/patients; administrative functions are generally performed in an office setting. The work requires operating vehicles under various weather and road conditions, on highways and streets in all kinds of weather often for extended periods of time on long trips. May be exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, strains, sprains etc.; work areas may be dusty and/or dirty. Must adjust hours of work to meet the needs of the unit and to complete the mission and goals of the Veterans Healthcare System.
