Summary

This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF); Child and Youth Program (N96); Commander, Navy Region Hawaii, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (JBPHH), Honolulu, HI. The purpose of this position is to drive a 25-passenger bus for recreational special events and tours sponsored by MWR.

Duties

Major Duties

  • Operates a bus with a capacity of 25-passengers or a 15-passenger van to predetermined specific routes, arriving and departing at appointed scheduled times.
  • Follows established administrative procedures such as checking passengers against manifest prior to leaving and returning. Notifies supervisor or of any delays or unusual situation as soon as situation allows.
  • Compiles and observes all local, state and government traffic regulations and conditions, ensuring the safety of the passengers and the vehicle.
  • Maintains trip records and or logs, showing time of departure, trip mileage, gasoline, diesel fuel, and oil consumption, etc. Reports any defects in vehicle operations, accidents. damages, traffic violations or passenger incidents.
  • Responsible for ensuring vehicle is ready for use, makes operational vehicle safety inspections prior to departure. During trips performs routine servicing such as pumping gas, adding oil and coolant, etc.
  • Maintains record of work performed while in route, keeping all credit card receipts for expenses.
  • Performs custodial duties cleaning vehicle inside and out prior, during and after returning to base.
  • Assists passengers as needed, may assist with carry on baggage, answers questions and provides information concerning trip.
  • Maintains good order during trip to ensure safety and enjoyment for all passengers.
  • Provides courtesy and quality customer service at all times.

  • Hawaii Driver's License Class B (CDL)
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain applicable state and/or government driver's license.
  • Satisfactorily complete all background checks in accordance with PL 101-647 to include National Agency Check with Written Inquiries (NACI).
  • Participation in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment is required.
  • This position has been identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent of this position will be subject to and must consent to random drug testing.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate possesses the following:

  • A current Hawaii Driver's license Class B.
  • Be knowledgeable and skilled in the use of additional forward speeds and driving wheels, the use of controls and the brakes and gearshift when going down grades.
  • Must be knowledgeable in turning radius, clearances, braking distance of the vehicle and the correct following distance.
  • Must have some mechanical ability to be able to make minor repairs.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Have a current CPR and First Aid Certificate or be able to attend first available class.

Education

This position does not have a positive education requirement.

Marijuana is a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act and therefore use of marijuana is illegal under Federal law regardless of State laws. A positive drug test result for marijuana (or any other drug tested for) will result in withdrawal of the tentative job offer and ineligibility to apply for a position within the Department of Defense for 6 months from the date of the drug test.

All individuals involved in the provision of child care services on a Department of Navy (DON) installation or in a DON-sanctioned program must complete the Installation Records Check (IRC). The IRC includes a check of the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) records in the Alcohol and Drug Management Information Tracking System (ADMITS) database, a check of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) records in the Fleet and Family Support Management Information System (FFSMIS), and an installation security/base check via the Navy Justice Information System (NJIS) database and/or other law enforcement systems. This information will be used to determine suitability for the applicant in accordance with criteria for automatic and presumptive disqualifiers, per DoDI 1402.05.

Per Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1402.05 Background Checks on Individuals in DoD Child Care Services Programs, incumbents will be automatically disqualified for a conviction in either civilian or military court (to include any general, special, or summary court-martial conviction or if they received non-judicial punishment [under Article 15 or chapter 47 of Title 10, U.S.C]) for any of the following: a sexual offense, any criminal offense involving a child victim, or a felony drug offense. Additionally, the incumbent will be automatically disqualified if he/she has been held to be negligent in a civil adjudication or administrative proceeding concerning the death of or serious injury to a child or dependent person entrusted to the individual's care.
