NAVIGATOR - GS-2183-11:

1. Under the guidance and assistance of the aircraft commander/flight instructor, operates aircraft to become a fully qualified, mission-ready Navigator in unit type aircraft. The nature of flying activities which the incumbent must master is dictated by war plans, enemy threats, classified intelligence gathering, and gaining MAJCOM training requirements. Actual tasks include low level flying (down to 100 feet above ground level (AGL) and up to 540 Knots for fighter type aircraft, down to 300 feet AGL and 210-290 Knots for airlift/tanker type aircraft) and other degrees of hazard. Combat maneuvers,
threat avoidance, and aerial flight survival must be firmly understood. Night aerial refueling (airplane typical) must be accomplished. Bombing, air-to-ground and air-to-air gunnery, air combat maneuvering, and other requirements exist for fighter organizations. Use of night vision devices, flying in mountainous terrain, performing combat assault landings on unprepared runways, and accomplishing aerial delivery of cargo/personnel (airplane typical) are required. Receives instruction and flight experience in the use of instruments, radio and navigation equipment, in-flight emergency operating procedures such as electrical, hydraulic, or engine failures, takeoff and landing procedures, penetration to landing areas, combat maneuvering procedures, weapon delivery procedures, and other exercises dictated by the unit aircraft and associated missions.

2. Participates in discussions, meetings or serves on panels or committees regarding unit aircraft and flying mission. Serves as a representative of the Air National Guard to the public and dignitaries and high ranking personnel during visits and while performing duty at or away from home station. Prepares and delivers oral presentations such as briefings and training sessions to secure cooperation, resolve issues, and convey information relative to flight training and flying operations.

3. Performs other flight related duties supporting the accomplishment of the unit operational and training mission. Assigned duties encompass the unit's operational planning and mission execution and include, but are not limited to participation in and assisting with: mission planning and briefing; life support; mobility; drop zone landing zone; publications; weapons; and others.

NAVIGATOR (INSTRUCTOR) - GS-2183-12:

1. Instructor duties include reviewing trainee's prior training and experience records of newly assigned aircrew to determine and planning the type and level of training necessary to achieve the required level of proficiency or skill. Prepares individual developmental records, along with a training syllabus with projected units of training required and ensures all required upgrade training items are completed, signed off, and proficiency demonstrated IAW AFI 11-2 MDS grading requirements before recommending trainee for evaluation or certifying the student as qualified in a tactic or mission. Schedules and participates in flight instruction with student to observe in-flight performance, demonstrate proper procedures and techniques, and evaluate progress. Provides thorough preflight and post-flight briefings and critiques that comply with requirements of mission outlines, as appropriate, for the type mission being flown. Maintains records of ground and flight training provided to crew members, analyzes progress, and prepares required training reports. Evaluates, diagnoses, and critiques student performance, identifies learning objectives and difficulties, and prescribes and conducts remedial instruction. Plans and conducts platform aircrew ground training, including simulator and procedures training on operational mission requirements, equipment operation, correct method for performing aircrew specialty duties, and applicable emergency procedures.

2. Incumbents are subject to rotation to perform administrative staff tasks in any of the following Air Operations program support functional areas:

a. Training and Scheduling: Designs and coordinates comprehensive training plans and scenarios to provide realistic technical aircrew training. Adopts and implements policy to ensure accomplishment of all required training. Establishes training goals and objectives for instrument flight and general operation of the UE airplane. Tailors training program to individual needs in order to provide uninterrupted progress. Analyzes post-mission debriefing and critiques to ensure accomplishment of assigned training events. Plans, develops and implements the unit flying schedule using inputs from within the Air Operations Group. Coordinates the operational requirements with the Aircraft Maintenance Group, the FAA and other outside agencies.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

NAVIGATOR - GS-2183-11 - Must have at least 36 months experience, education or training that required obtaining information on type of mission, weather, and intelligence data, and special instructions; experience preparing navigation flight plans; experience that provided a knowledge of proper readings and operations of navigational systems. Validated ability to test and inspect the operation of compasses, navigation systems, or radio and radar equipment; experience utilizing various navigational methods and aids to accomplish flying missions. Experience computing the effect of various factors during flight to establish present course and project balance of course and ability to train, evaluate and certify proficiency and competency of lower graded personnel. Validated completion of the necessary hours required for applicants' current airframe. (ex. 1000 hours total navigation time which includes 200 hours' time in the C-130).

NAVIGATOR (INSTRUCTOR) - GS-2183-12 - Must have GS-2183-11 experience listed above plus certification as a qualified Navigator Instructor.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
