Summary

The FBI's Information Technology Infrastructure Division (ITID) is seeking a highly qualified Network Engineer to monitor and maintain the health of FBI enterprise networks and their components, ensuring availability and prime performance of systems as well as effective incident response. Duties

GS-11:

  • Conduct regular analysis of current process to determine the feasibility of new or automated processes to resolve issues or expedite workflows.
  • Develop close contact and working relationships with personnel in various functional activities throughout the organization to effectively carry out and coordinate necessary activities.
  • At times, provide initial troubleshooting and triage for system alerted of customer reported incidents involving network devices or software.
  • Define, design, develop and deploy dashboards that communicate IT system availability information in a succinct way.
  • Ensure the on-time creation and dissemination of reporting related to IT systems, also ensure that other irregular reporting requirements are met per their individual requirements.
  • Provide situational reporting related to operating capabilities of the Network Operations Center.
GS-12, in addition to the above:
  • Performs a variety of complex management/program analysis functions and advises managers and operational personnel on difficult and/or complex issues.
  • Formulates and analyzes the budget for particular appropriations.
  • Studies, analyzes and develops work measurement and other statistical methods to arrive at quantitative data necessary for analysis to improve accuracy, timeliness and validity of various services.
  • Gathers and organizes information on problems or procedures; then analyzes data gathered and develops solutions or alternative methods of proceeding.
  • Provide expertise necessary to solve complex problems that hinder the development or operation of the organization's IT systems.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret-SCI clearance.
  • All federal employees who opted into the Deferred Resignation program (DRP) MUST resign prior to appointment in their new position.

Qualifications

GS-11: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
  • Experience configuring, installing, repairing, and/or maintaining computer networks, utilizing tools including but not limited to SolarWinds, HP, and Riverbed.
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving network related problems by analyzing problems and issues.
  • Experience working with clients and customers to assess their needs; providing technical assistance, resolving problems, and providing quality products and services.
  • Experience providing advice and/or guidance to various levels of personnel regarding administrative and technical matters related to IT programs and/or services.
GS-12: In addition to the above, applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
  • Experience monitoring network traffic to identify deviations from traffic parameters and assisting in implementing problem resolutions.
  • Experience managing short and long-range IT projects.
  • Experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving hardware, software and other network and system problems (replacing faulty network hardware components and monitoring network performance).

Education

All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.

GS-12: Education may not be substituted for specialized experience at this level.
