Duties

As a ORDNANCE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC, WG-6641-10 your duties are below.

  1. The Materiel Section is comprised of Operations, Inspections, and Stockpile Management Elements. Manages allocations, stock levels, inventories, requisitions, and disposition of munitions. Manage excess serviceable/unserviceable munitions program. Coordinate scheduling of complete, custody, special munitions inventories and compiles inventory adjustment packages as required. Establish and maintain an effective munitions inspection program for all munitions assets to include receipt, inspection, stockpile surveillance and preservation, marking and packaging, and shipping requirements. Manage warehouse munitions stockpiles, maintain storage area infrastructure and facilities, vehicles, and equipment to ensure mission support. Store bulk stock and operationally configured or built-up munitions. Process munitions movement transactions. (30%)
  2. Production Section is comprised of Conventional Maintenance, Line-Delivery, Munitions Materiel Handling Equipment and may involve Missile Maintenance. May perform the following depending on assignment to MAF, CAF, Intel, or RPA units without Aircraft: Assembles/Disassembles, adjusts configuration, performs maintenance/tests & repairs, handles and transports ammunition, decoys, countermeasures to include LUU series flares and dispensers, rocket, unguided and guided weapons and countermeasures, demolition material, and other types of conventional ordnance such as 40MM, Cluster Bomb Units (CBU), Guided Bomb Units (GBU), general purpose bombs, aircraft canon ammunition, missile systems, for loading on aircraft based on Unit Committed Munitions List (UCML) and Wings training requirements. Independently troubleshoots electrical/mechanical faults of integrated systems by thoroughly analyzing operating trends. Perform Pre/Post Flight inspection and flight line return inspections. Assigns Weapon Stock Number (WSN) and records builds and teardowns of complete rounds in the accountable property system of record (APSR). Applies determined criteria utilizing fusing and arming systems; technical drawings; precision measuring tools and equipment; wiring diagrams; rigid specifications and close tolerances to examine ordnance systems using a variety of standard precision instruments, gauges and methods. Performs maintenance on electrical, pneumatic, and high pressure air tanks subsystems and assemblies. Configures Munitions Material Handling Equipment (MMHE) for mission support. Delivers in a safe configuration, MMHE/munitions between assembly/staging areas and aircraft parking ramps. Validates expenditure and movement documentation for munitions reconciliation and expenditure reporting. Performs and certifies, armament and support equipment serviceability inspections. Maintains and repairs MMHE for all work orders assigned to maintenance actions. Performs inspections on armament, support, and associated test equipment using a wide variety of processes and techniques. (30%)
  3. Systems Section is comprised of Munitions Control, Combat Plans, Mobility & Training and Plans & Scheduling Elements. Coordinates with various sections to ensure the effective flow of information, scheduling, and use of available resources. Manage Nuclear Certified Equipment Program as applicable. Develops, maintains, coordinates, and integrates Emergency Action Checklists with outside agencies. Assists with the management of the key and high security lock program. Processes munitions transactions, creates, and tracks work-orders in the appropriate automated system. Maintains maps showing the entire storage area, primary and alternate explosives routes, and sited explosives locations. Administers combat plans and mobility packages. Executes and coordinates training schedules, including Combat Munitions Training (CMT) for fulltime staff and traditional guardsman. Develops and maintains munitions portion of the Base Support Plan, Expeditionary Site Plan, and Munitions Employment Plan. Serves as a point of contact for developing, planning, forecasting, and scheduling for the maintenance of live, inert, and dummy munitions, non-powered munitions support equipment, handling equipment, and facility inspection requirements. 30%
  4. Complies with safety and security requirements. Complies with all Federal, State, DOD, USAF, and local regulations concerning hazardous materials/waste munitions assets. Maintains hazardous waste and material according to applicable directives. Coordinates movement of hazardous materiel munitions or related assets through the Traffic Management Office. (10%)

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires military membership in a compatible military assignment in the Iowa Air National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of this excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT: Employment is subject to attaining and maintaining a clearance as required by this position. Failure to complete prescribed courses may be cause for reassignment or termination of FTS.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Experience or training which has provided the candidate with the knowledge and application of mechanical and electrical principles and the skill to perform intricate repair and adjustment of hydraulic and pneumatic components and devices.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: WG-6641-10: Must haveexperience in the following:

  1. Experience or training in repairing, rebuilding, modifying, and testing a variety of major subassemblies.
  2. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and determining repair in major components consisting of numerous assemblies, interrelated electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic assemblies, and components.
  3. Experience in the use of precision measurement equipment.
  4. Experience interpreting and applying a variety of technical manuals and similar published materials.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for this position:

  1. Skill in all processes from disassembly thru final test of the more complex equipment and multi-component devices which are composed of a number of interrelated electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic assemblies and components.
  2. Skill to use sound judgment in conjunction with the most advanced trade practices in order to select and plan the proper work procedures. In some cases incumbent must revise or adapt current methods to comply with modifications not originally provided for.
  3. Skill and ability is required to use precision measuring and special test equipment to ensure dimensional accuracy and operating stability. In addition incumbents must measure and evaluate specific characteristics of the equipment, apply mathematical concepts and techniques, and independently interpret and apply requirements contained in a variety of technical modification publications, blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, etc.
  4. Knowledge of the total ordnance system which is composed of a number of interrelated devices in order to make adjustments and alignments to the more complex assemblies and/or the total system.
  5. Ability to make independent judgments as to the best methods and techniques to complete the work. Assistance is available on unique problems relative to design changes or modification.
  6. Ability to instruct and provide technical assistance to lower grade workers and to perform repairs at remote sites.
