Qualifications
TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit Promotion and Veterans Employment Opportunity Act (VEOA) Status applicants must provide an SF50 Notice of Personnel Action that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF50 must include the position, title, series, grade, step, tenure, type of service (Competitive or Excepted) and career status (career or career-conditional). No award SF50 will be accepted as proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility.
- One year at the GS-12 grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 grade level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position,
you must demonstrate that you possess BOTH the Basic Requirement AND Specialized Experience requirements outlined below:
Basic Requirement: You must possess a Bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited institution with a major in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences that is appropriate for the Occupational Health Specialist position.

AND
Specialized Experience: In addition to the Basic Requirement above, to be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience below:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to:
- Applying regulations and procedures to advise on or resolve health related matters dealing with applicant/incumbent that have job-related medical requirements;
- Managing and reviewing medical cases within medical programs (e.g., medical standards); AND
- Analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of applicant/incumbent medical programs.

Education

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirements for one year of full-time graduate study.
Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. This position is open to Competitive Merit Promotion, Non-Competitive and Special Hiring Authority eligibles. You must meet the requirements for one of the following eligibilities:
- Current permanent competitive service employees; former Federal employees who achieved career status in the competitive service; or former Federal employees who served on a career conditional appointment without achieving career status in the competitive service who was separated less than 3 years ago, must submit an SF50 that indicates career or career-conditional (Tenure field 1 or 2); AND status in the competitive service (Position Occupied field 1.)
- Veterans applying under the Veterans Employment Opportunity Act (VEOA) must submit a copy of their latest DD214 indicating service performed under honorable conditions. To be eligible for a VEOA appointment, a veteran must be preference eligible OR have substantially completed 3 or more years of continuous active service.
