Duties

  • Coordinates and assists with race operations as well as identifying needs and providing input for logistical and organizational requirements.  Prepares timelines for all MCMO races and coordinates special projects on Marine Corps Base Quantico.  Will work closely with the Operations Manager on racecourse designs for all MCMO events and implement improvements. 
  • Recruits volunteers and entertainment components for the MCMO events.  Assists with training and  tasks¿ assignment of volunteers and maintains records of their work.  Sends out letters of appreciation.  Additional tasks include Special Project Officers (SPOs) coordination and communication, and producing documentation required by supporting agencies. Maintains files and collects input for improvement. May write plans and manuals. Provides operational assistance for MCM and other events as needed. This position reports to the MCMO Operations Manager. 
  • Provides detailed accounting of financial requirements to Supervisor for budgeting purposes and maintaining fiscal records for each event.  Creates reports and briefs.  May write or revise manuals and letter of instructions.
  • May be required to travel to attend MCMO races, meetings and expos to promote races and events.  May be required to attend other race expos to set up booths with MCMO race materials to promote MCMO race series by handing out MCMO materials, speaking to runners about MCMO races and events, and soliciting vendors to participate in races. Prepares for MCMO races and events by setting up cones, tents, start and finish lines and other race requirements. Observation of race practices by attending other races within the running industry and learning how they prepare, plan and execute races and upon return implement race practices and procedures at MCMO races.  May be required to stand for extended periods of time at expos to hand out materials and to speak with runners and vendors about MCMO races.
  • May provide contract oversight or serve as a Contracting Officer Representative.  Will support or facilitate annual manpower review and requirements development. Additional tasks may include maintaining all event files, SPO coordination and communication, assisting with creating race courses, producing documentation required by supporting agencies, and submitting permits.

Qualifications

  • Three years¿ experience in business management, project management or operations management is required. A degree in business or management is preferred. Must possess human relations skills in dealing with the needs of visitors, entertainers and contractors. 
  • Must have excellent organizational skills. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Must be able to handle unusual problems during planning and negotiating phases. 
  • This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the qualifications above. 
  • Must possess a valid driver¿s license.
