Basic Requirement for Operations Research Analyst: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in operations research; or a degree with at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. You MUST submit a copy of your transcript with your application package, or you will be rated ineligible.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes the following: 1. Apply operations research, mathematics, and statistics sufficient to perform cost benefit analyses and support assigned programs. 2. Perform data mining of large raw data sets to create usable information to support analytical studies; 3. Utilize cost analyses methods, models and tools, as well as other statistical software tools, to support analytical studies and to integrate cost and benefit analyses; 4. Lead and organize studies of complex issues and problems to effectively plan, prepare, and support a range of economic analyses. 5. Present and/or communicate (written/oral) technical data to higher senior officials.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower pay band or grade level position in the federal service (DB 02/GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
