In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement: Have successfully completed all of the requirements for a Operations Research Analyst. The basic requirements include a Degree in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above applicants must also meet the specialized experience below:
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience at the GS-13 which prepared you to do the work in this job.
Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing software and hardware to support data collection and analysis; assisting in the development of analytic methodologies in support of agency studies; conducting systematic maintenance of programs to aide research and provide decision support tools for leadership; analyzing complex data sets in order to present recommendations to Senior Leadership; and advising senior managers on advantages and/or disadvantages of different mathematical approaches to analyzing organizational problem sets. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
